This doesn't mean that you should be selfish and try to spend as much time away from home as possible, but by taking some time to refuel each week your renewed energy will provide your kids with the best mommy possible.
It is important for parents to get out of the house and away from the kids. Some parents are very reluctant to leave their children and think that the most important thing is putting children first which to them means always being the one taking care of them. The truth is that leaving your kids for a few hours is good for everyone. It prevents mommy burn out and helps kids learn to adjust to being away from you and learn to deal with new situations.
If you are married going on regular dates with your spouse and keeping the fire alive can save your marriage and what better thing can you do for your kids than stay married? We all know divorce can be devastating to children. Your kids will be okay for a few hours a week without you, but they may have major life challenges if one parent is no longer living at home with them.
If you are single it is imperative that you make friends and have down time so that you can be the most effective parent possible. Tired, worn out parents are not effective. They yell more and have less patience.
Do your whole family a wonderful service and take time to recharge your batteries and/or renew your marriage and friendships.
